Born in Luenburg, Germany. Daughter of German-Expressionist poet and writer, Dr.Robert Brendel.Persecution and interruption of education during the Hitler regime. Abitur(B.A.) 1940 Hamburg.

She studied at the State Academy of Art in Hamburg. Exhibited with the first group of abstract artists after the war in Munich.

1951 immigration to the U.S.A. Came to Los Angeles in 1953. She continued her studies at the University of Southern California, USC. Taught UCLA Extension classes on modern art. The artist had numerous solo-shows at museums and galleries in California. She was one of the pioneer abstract artists on the west coast.

She lived in New York from 1966-72 where she attended the New School for Social Research to study the history of physics, exhibited her work and met many New York artists and museum directors.

She returned to Los Angeles and joined in 1980 the "Artists in Residence" program at the California Museum of Science and Industry". She organized several exhibitions of computer art for that group.

Bettina Brendel is listed in "Who's Who in American Art" since 1973. Her large paintings in acrylic on canvas and her computer generated Giclee prints have been shown in the US and in Europe. Her latest solo-exhibition was at the David Lawrence Gallery in Beverly Hills in 2000.

The artist is frequently invited to various international conferences on Art, Science & Technology. She is included in the recent publication, "Explorations in Art and Technology", Springer-Verlag, London, UK.
